How to makeover your bathroom without spending too much

The bathroom is a place where you do your personal routines, so for this reason, you should be comfortable moving there as much as possible. In terms of design, the bathroom is the second most expensive part of the house to renovate next to the kitchen.

Whether you have a small or huge bathroom, you can make it look expensive in your own way. Here are some ideas to give your bathroom a new look:

Paint Your Bathroom

Don’t make your bathroom look dull by not changing the paint for years. One way to give it a lift is to replace the colour of the wall, vanity and shelves. Choose light colours that make it look cleaner. You can add a touch of bright shades for a refreshing glow. You can also add a PVC wainscoting around the room and colour the space above and below it differently.  It adds charm and breaks the monochromatic walls.

Make Use Of Vintage Pieces

Boost the look of your bathroom by accentuating it with a vintage furniture. This adds a classic touch and feel. You can pull in a stool, side table or a cabinet to contain your towels and other bathroom needs. Place a plant or book on a stool for a rustic effect.

Upgrade Your Bathroom Accessories

Replacing the old bathroom accessories is the cheapest and easiest way to spruce up your bathroom. You can upgrade your accessories, such as drawer pulls. Add texture and color by changing your rug, soap dish, toothbrush holder and soap holder. Replace an old shower curtain. It is best to install the shower rod higher to make it look more spacious.

Switch The Mirrors

Change the mirror that has been there for many years. Improve the colour of an old one by coating it with a lacquer for a more vintage look.

Improve the Lighting

Lighting is often neglected when it comes to changing the style of a bathroom. Improve the lighting fix in the room, or accentuate the windows with curtains that allow the light to pass and still keep the privacy.  Hang large paintings or bright photo on the wall to reflect the light.

Use Open Shelves

Open Shelves are great ways to improve the storage space. Moreover, an open shelve gives more identity, depth and character.

Add Fresh Flowers In Your Bathroom

Put fresh flowers in a vase and place it on top of the sink or cabinet. It may be too easy to do, but it gives life and makes your bathroom prettier.

Decorate The Wall With Pretty Wallpapers

Choose wallpaper that is subdue and interesting. Pick wallpaper designs that blend well with the color of your wall, furniture and accessories.

Utilize baskets

Baskets are available and cheap, but provides a clutter-free and tidy bathroom. You can choose baskets made from various materials such as wicker, woven plastic or rattan. Baskets are versatile containers that can hold anything and yet provide a unique homey feel.

Change The Rug

Rugs are not anymore just something that you step on to dry your feet after a shower. Rugs are now one of the focal points in a bathroom that brighten up the space. Use Turkish Kilim that gives wonderful colour and personality to your bathroom.

Use Trendy Vinyl Floors

The floor is one of the most difficult parts of the bathroom that’s hard to change when renovating or having a makeover. It is expensive. However, there’s a solution now if you want to change it. Vinyl floor cloths are the best alternative to give your floor a new look. There are plenty of designs to choose from that matches your style.

Home makeover

It has been a while since our house has seen a lick of paint and had a home makeover, well the lounge and hall anyway. We spent a while deciding on the colours we wanted to go due to us decorating the main areas of our home we wanted to get it right. I have been wanting to go a little warmer in colour and Ian has been wanting to stay a lighter colour. We have always gone for the cream/magnolia range in colour so I thought why not go for the change wanted and go warmer in colour.

I stopped off during my lunch break one day and got some samples/testers as we like to put these on the wall and see what colour grows on us. We planned to decorate over the half term week as I had booked time off work, I got told I had holiday left to use up at work so I thought oh well I may as well use it and make use of the time off. With it being half term we had a day where we prepared the areas being painted and then we had a good few days of day trips and fun so the half term week was not all about decorating and the kids be bored as that just would not be fair on them.

Once we had agreed on the colours we wanted we went on a shopping trip armed with a long list of items needed for our home makeover.

A small but expensive shopping trip to collect all what we needed for the home makeover.

Our lounge is not a very big lounge, infact it’s tiny, but we did put an archway in by knocking a wall down between the lounge and dining area so this made it more open for us and lets more light in the room.

I have been doing some online shopping and ive been looking at patterns and colours I would like to add at a later date, I have found some nice curtains I like, new cushion covers, a nice rug for the lounge and even a nice lamp for some mood lighting. On the wall we are looking to update the family photo’s as this has not been done for a while so it will be nice to put some up to date ones up.

We found having a home makeover has given us loads of new daring ideas for adding colours and patterns to our home. There will be lots of changes happening to our home over the next few weeks, I already have plans for a furniture change around.

Finished colour.

The decorating took us four days to complete from start to finish, we are so pleased it is now done. We didn’t want to start the glossing until the kid’s was back at school, we did get quick drying gloss to save us from any disasters as it is so easy to forget the doors are wet…….As Ian soon found out, and there was me worrying about the kid’s touching the wet paint!

What sort of colours do you tend to choose for your home?
