Can You Add More Space To Your Home Without An Extension?

Can You Add More Space To Your Home Without An Extension?

***Collaborative post***

Is there a way to add more space to your home without investing in a costly and disruptive extension? Well…there’s good and bad news! The bad news is that you can’t physically add more floor space to your home without actually building more rooms onto it. However, the good news is that there are methods of creating more space and making your home look and feel more spacious. It won’t physically increase in size, but you should feel less cramped and get more from your current floor space.

Here are some things you can do:

Build or buy a garden shed

If you have a garden, getting a shed is the perfect solution. It’s far easier to build than a garage, and you can pretty much handle it by yourself. Get in touch with timber merchants, buy all the equipment/supplies, then watch a YouTube video and you’re good to go! If you don’t like getting your hands dirty, you can always buy a pre-built one online. The purpose of this is to act as a storage space for things that aren’t needed in your home at all times. You’ll be amazed at how much space this creates when you remove lots of clutter or items that you use sporadically from your property. It may even let you clear out your attic, leaving it open for a little renovation – perhaps adding a new room to your home without an extension!

Use your furniture for storage purposes

Next, you can create space by turning your furniture into storage space. This works in a couple of ways. Firstly, you can buy furniture that has built-in storage compartments. This includes beds that lift up to reveal a large storage area, footrests where the top can be taken off and the rest is basically a box, etc. Secondly, you can take advantage of the fixed state of some furniture to store things underneath. Again, beds are a great example as you can put belongings under the bed in small storage containers. The same goes for sofas and armchairs – you’re basically hiding stuff under the furniture, so it’s not in plain sight. Therefore, the illusion of more space is created because fewer things are left cluttered about. Not only that but you genuinely do create more space for people to walk around and move.

Be more organised

Yes, the act of being more organised is the simplest way of creating space in your home. Think about all the different ways you can be a bit tidier or neater. For instance, putting your shoes away in a rack, rather than leaving them on the hallway floor. Instantly, more space is created and the hallway feels less cramped. In the living room, stop leaving things on the floor or letting coffee tables get cluttered. Even the process of reorganizing your furniture layout can add more space to your home.

So, yes, you can technically add more space to your home without paying for an extension. It won’t make your house bigger, but it will help you open up your property and take advantage of all the space you currently have.

Those Unmissable Steps In Any Home Construction

Those Unmissable Steps In Any Home Construction

When you are looking for ways to improve the overall look of your home, there are a lot of things that you will want to consider. Probably most important of all is considering some kind of renovation, which can easily be achieved in a number of ways. If you are thinking of carrying out some kind of construction in your home, there are some essential steps that you should be aware of. In this post, we’ll take you through some of those steps, so that you can ensure you are going to get it done much sooner and with greater success.

Ideation & Planning

First of all, you need to be really clear on what you want to change in the home and why. Only by having a strong idea that you love will you be able to find the necessary motivation to carry on, and you are going to find things so much easier in this way. So, spend some time asking yourself what kind of ideas you want to put into place. How do you want your home to look and feel, and what are you going to do to make it a reality? This is going to be essential in getting started.

After you have your essential idea, you then need to draw up a basic plan for how you are going to achieve it. That can be a difficult part of the process, but it is also one of the most important, so it’s vital that you do not overlook it if you can help it. This plan should include what you want the home to look like at the end, as well as what you are going to do – in the major steps – to make it a reality.

Of course, you can go very detailed into this plan if you like, but you should bear in mind that this is not always going to be easy to do, and you might need to keep things simple instead. It’s all about finding the right balance for you and your project. But one thing is for sure: some kind of plan is bound to be essential.

Finding A Team

If your project is a considerable one, you are probably going to need to find a team who can work alongside you. This is not always going to be easy to do, but again it is likely going to be essential, so you should make sure that you are thinking about it for that reason in particular. Most of all, you need someone to help with the blueprints and plans, such as a qualified architect. You will also need to look out for a construction team whom you feel you can trust, of course, and that can be something of a challenge in itself.

The important point here is not to land on one option too quickly, but rather to try and find a team who are likely to work with you and offer you the best opportunity that you would hope for. This means spending time shopping around, and trying to follow your nose with regard to finding a team you feel you can trust.

Carving Out Time

The project in question is always going to take some time, so you need to make sure you can find it. That might mean you need to take some time off work, or even that you need to think about doing something along the lines of shaking things up in your life in a more profound way. The important thing is that you are going to have enough time to get the project done, but without having to rush and cut corners – as that can often end up causing a lot of problems in itself.

Once you have landed on a particular time frame, you are going to find it so much easier to get the ball rolling in a significant manner.

Put Up Scaffolding

Before any actual construction can be done, you need to find a team who can construct the scaffolding for you. In most cases, this should be a pretty straightforward affair, but there are always going to be times when you need to find a specialist team who can offer you in house design scaffolding instead, which can help to make the project much more successful and easier to complete. Without this vital step, it is unlikely the construction work is going to go ahead as planned.

Sourcing Materials & Equipment

In most cases, your construction team is going to come with many of their own equipment and materials, but there will likely be a lot that you also need to source separately. Anything that you are going to use for the construction of something new is necessary for you to source, for instance, so that is something that you should consider. It’s important to think about this before you get them in, so that you can be sure they have work to do the moment they arrive. They are unlikely to appreciate it if you are not doing this, and it could delay things considerably too, which is not going to help things along.

Review

While the construction is taking place, you should consider how much of an active role you want to have, and act accordingly. However, whichever level of action you get involved in, you should also make sure that you are frequently reviewing the construction process, so that you can update the plan as required along the way. One rule of thumb is that you can always expect your plans to change, and you never know quite how they are going to change. Being on top of things and paying close attention at all times is therefore going to prove to be a useful skill, for you and everyone involved.

If you can bear that essential process in mind, you should find that your home construction is much more likely to succeed, and that you are going to have a better result at the end.

Bring Your Home Into The Modern Age

Bring Your Home Into The Modern Age

Ideas to help bring Your Home Into the modern age

Your home is your place of solitude. Your home is the place that you love to make your own, and one way we think you should be doing that is by bringing it into the modern age. We’re talking in terms of design, technology, and everything to do with the outside of the home. There’s just something about a really modern looking home that makes it feel fabulous, and it’s a look so many people are going for. But, unless you’ve bought a new build home, you aren’t exactly going to find this easy. The transformation might be big, expensive, but it will be one of the most rewarding ones that you have ever done. We want to show you a few simple ways that you can bring your home into the modern age, so have a read and see if you would like to do any of them to your own home!

Bring Your Home Into The Modern Age

Using Modern Decor

Modern decor really does have the power to change the whole feel of your home. Plus, it’s one of the cheapest changes that we’re going to suggest that you make. So, the main thing you need to think about is the colours you’re using, and the accessories that you’re putting in. At the minute, we think that modern is nice and bright, and the best colour to achieve that with is white. You could go for a white wall look, with one grey feature wall, and have grey accessories. It’s such a smart and modern look, and a lot of homes are going for it at the minute. All you would need to do would be to secure yourself some fancy grey wallpaper, or even just stick to paint, and change the colour of the carpet to grey. If you then go for grey furniture and silver accessories, you’ve completed the perfect look in either your bedroom or your living room! Plus, it doesn’t take that much effort to try and sort it.

Having A Modern Renovation

A renovation is a scary thing to a lot of you because of money, but once it’s done it lasts for years, and the value it can add to your home is going to be so good for you when you come to resell. Mccormack Plywood Kitchens is just one company you should check out if this is something you would be considering. If you’re going for something as big as this, you need to make sure that it’s perfect for you, and that it’s nice and modern. Most kitchens are, and you can visit a showroom to decide which one you would like. We like the darker coloured kitchens at the minute!

Get Some Modern Technology

Technology is obviously one of the best ways that you can bring some modern to your home. One of the coolest that we think you could try is home automation, because you can control your home from your phone. It’s not only cool, but super practical if you’ve left the heating or lights on when you leave the home!

Renovating your bathroom in style

Renovating Your Bathroom In Style

Renovating your bathroom in style

When you are in the mood for a change around the home, a renovation is often one of the first things to think of. But knowing what room to do can be tricky. A popular one, however, is the bathroom, no least because it can be one of the least expensive rooms to renovate, and yet it is one which will affect everyone pretty positively. If you are thinking of renovating your bathroom, then you will want to ensure that you get every stage of the process right. With that in mind, we have put together this short post on ensuring you renovate your bathroom fast, in style and on budget. Let’s have a look.

Renovating Your Bathroom In Style

Timing

First of all, you need to be absolutely confident that now is a good time to actually renovate your bathroom. If it is not, then you might actually cause everyone in your home a lot of hassle and worry. Ideally, you will want a decent stretch of time in which you are not likely to experience either any major disruptions or any particular other projects which could get in the way. You will also want to know that you can devote the necessary time and energy to getting the project done in good time, especially if you are doing it yourself, or doing parts of it yourself. Provided that you find a good stretch of time, it is much more likely that you will see the results you really want to see.

Cost

It goes without saying that a renovation will cost you, but that doesn’t mean that the cost has to be particularly high. Especially if you know how to keep costs down, you might be surprised at just how cheaply you can actually carry out any renovation. Figuring out your new bathroom cost can be tricky, but you will be glad in the long run that you worked it out. When you do sit down to work it out, you should try to be as detailed as possible, otherwise there is little point in doing it at all. Try to take into account everything that you will need to source, as well as any labour you will need to pay for and you will be able to plan it out much more effectively. Saving money here will be much appreciated when you come to the end of the project.

Design

The actual design of the new bathroom is probably the most important part of all for you. If you are keen on having a completely new design, then you will probably find that you need to look around at many different places for some inspiration. Otherwise, you might know exactly what you want – in which case you have it lucky. If that is so, you can just get started with exactly what you want to happen. But even then, it is worth noting that you should do everything you can to get the plans down on paper as well as possible.
